The challenge of a puzzle at the scale of a chair. The Ori Puzzle is a large kinetic puzzle, perfect for a break from long hours sitting at a desk. It reminisces of pillow forts, hints at the physical ‘puzzles’ of rock climbing, and brings activity to a landscape of otherwise static office furniture. Challenge your friends to find the ‘Cube’ state, or simply investigate the many forms and enjoy their abstraction. 

The Ori Puzzle is designed for your common area, lobby, or public space. It is constructed to withstand playful use, and has a washable outer fabric. When multiple Ori Puzzles are combined, thousands of new shapes are possible. 

About

The Ori Puzzle is inspired by the Yoshimoto Cube #2. When scaled up in size from desk toy to furniture, new materials and construction need to be considered. 

Our team tested dozens of foam types and densities before arriving at the final foam core of the Ori Puzzle. It is light and flexible, allowing for ease of use and safety, but also rigid enough to hold the iconic geometric form. The outer layer of fabric is rip-stop marine grade dacron, able to withstand spills, cleaning and direct sun. The hinges and corners are double-layered for extra reinforcement. 

About the name :
Derived from the Japanese word origami, ‘Ori’ means ‘folding’ and ‘gami’ means paper. We enjoy the similarities this object has to origami and borrowed the prefix to be our namesake. 

The Ori Puzzle Team :
We are a small group of designers and fabricators that have worked in the field of public art for many years. Drawing on our knowledge of materials and methods, we set out to create a functional piece of art for any common space - one that could playfully be enjoyed by anyone, but also contained physical and mental intrigue.
